NH New Construction

The house we designed in Exeter, NH is framed.

This computer rendering isn’t just for looks, it’s a detailed and highly accurate model of the whole house. We construct a 3D model of everything from the site conditions to the foundation to the framing, mechanical systems and finishes. Designing in this way not only ensures that the house can actually be built as drawn (i.e. we can ensure that all the trim bands align, that there are no conflicts between structural and mechanical elements, etc.), it also makes the process of communicating the design to the contractor and client much smoother. When they have a question, we can quickly pull up the 3D model of the house and look at a detail together.

Modeling the framing, including the rafter tails and overhangs, allows us to work out complex trim details like these soffits that slope upward on all sides of the upper roof overhang.

All structural members including posts, beams, and joists are precisely modeled to eliminate on-site changes to the design.

The foundation may be the most complicated part of this design, since it features a number of steps, jogs, and an integrated pool which shares a wall with the house. The ability to model the terrain and foundation was essential to working out these details.

Much of the foundation’s complexity (footing elevations and steps) is hidden once it is backfilled.
